What are the Best Apps and Software for Students?

resources and apps
Which apps are the best for studying and revision? Let's find out! (Source: Unsplash)

Nowadays, instead of interacting with humans and asking them questions, students feel more comfortable using apps and getting their answers on massive search engines such as Google. So, to meet the needs of the masses, we're going to take a look at ten apps and software programmes that every student should consider taking a serious look at.

Coggle

Simple to use, Coggle is a web-based mind mapping tool that’s easy to pick up and run with. In contrast to Google Docs, Coggle produces hierarchically structured documents, like a branching tree.

How can Coggle be used? Well, double-click on any item to edit, and click the plus signs on either side to add branches to your mind map. Click and hold to drag them around the canvas to design your mind map any way you'd like. Coggle will automatically assign different colours to your branches. However, by clicking on a branch of your mindmap, a colour wheel will appear and you can personalise it yourself. When you’ve finished a map, you can download it as a PDF or PNG and share it with others. Want to know the best part? Coggle is completely free!

Wunderlist

Not "wanderlust", Wunderlist is a brilliant software for students to keep track of their daily to-dos, appointments, exam times and due dates. Wunderlist is great for staying up to date with deadlines in the modules you’re studying and making sure you don’t miss any important tests. If you’ve planned it, Wunderlist will send you notifications and remind you until it’s done.

XMind

Another web-based mapping tool, you can organise your ideas and thoughts in a variety of different formats, diagrams and designs with the ever-flexible XMind. XMind accomplishes simple mind maps to fishbone-style flowcharts; there’s something for everyone here! All for free XMind lets you add images and icons to differentiate parts of a project or specific idea, as well as add links and multimedia content. Highly rated and greatly recommended by past students, XMind is brilliant!

myHomework Student Planner

Amazing for student planning and compatible using devices such as Android or Apple, myHomework Student Planner is a digital-planning app for students. Pupils of all ages can effectively organise their coursework, upcoming assignments and tasks, and manage their daily routines. It's quite simple since all users need to do is enter their class information into the calendar.

Also, if you have any important exams or coursework coming, reminders can be set so that you don't miss anything!

Evernote

Not only a note-taking and planning app, regardless of whether you’re in high school or pursuing a degree, but Evernote also makes being a student so much easier. But, how's that? Evernote organises all of your courses and assignments. Students don't have to spend time searching for their assignments and this helps them save a lot of time.

Mathway

Do you struggle with maths and simply wish that they would just go away once and for all? If so, you're not alone. Mathematics tends to be one of the primary academic disciplines that students struggle with at the primary, secondary, and university levels. However, to make studying maths much easier, Mathway has been developed. Mathway is a comprehensive app that straightforwardly explains solutions and answers. The step-by-step instructions assist students to solve similar equations in the future.

Google Software

the mother of all learning platforms

Isn't "Google Software" a tad vague? Yet there are so many useful apps and software created and designed by Google that we couldn't name them individually in this article. Nonetheless, for teen students or those students at a higher education level, we highly recommend three Google apps: Google Docs, Google Calendar, and Google Classroom. Let's take a look at the pros of each in the following list:

  • Google Docs: a word processing tool that allows you to communicate with other students and your teachers using the same software, Google Docs is free and it's an excellent tool for collaborative projects.
  • Google Calendar: on the other hand, keeps all your tasks and assignments well-planned. You can receive notifications and quickly keep track of all your classes, events, and upcoming activities in the same place.
  • Google Classroom: as a user of Google Classroom, I just want to say that I can't recommend it enough. Why's that? Google Classroom is a free blended learning platform that simplifies creating, distributing and grading assignments. Google Classroom makes it a piece of cake to share files between teachers and students.

Notability

Useful for iPhone and Android users, Notability is probably the best app for notes; especially if you're a person who much prefers writing notes down on paper. Notability is quite popular among university students and adult learners and it can quickly be downloaded using the App or Google Play Store. One thing that's quite fun about Notability is that you can add images, PDFs, and sketches to your notes to make them more fun!

Quizlet

learning alternatives keep things fun

To make the most complex and heavy academic disciplines and topics seem just a tad easier, students need simple software systems. Such as? Quizlet. Everyone can use Quizlet right away by using games, flashcards, and expert-written solutions. Here are some of the topics that Quizlet teaches:

  • Arts and Humanities,
  • Maths,
  • Languages,
  • Social Sciences,
  • Sciences.

All of the previously mentioned disciplines have subtopics that can be focused on with more detail.

Seesaw

Last but not least, another magnificent learning software is Seesaw. But, what exactly is Seesaw used for? Seesaw is known as a great application that connects teachers and students on one learning platform. Academic advisors of all grade levels who teach distinct subject matter can create learning tasks and assignments for students. Teachers introduce Seesaw to students and teach them how to use it so that they can have interactive lesson plans, assignments, and homework that incorporate videos, photos, text, images, files, or drawings.

In conclusion, the ten previously mentioned apps and software programs are designed by developers with students in mind; therefore, they're easy to use and don't make things more stressful and overwhelming than they have to be. We guarantee that if you try using these apps your years as a student will fly by!
